Ah! The Wisdom Inherent in a Curious Spirit..., January 11, 2017
There is a straight-forward, unadulterated wisdom to Wynn Flaming's work. He is an Artist, a musician, and a poet on a journey of self-actualization. Indeed, Mr. Flaming is a fellow traveler upon the road we all sojourn. As he proves with the release of his new book "Whispers of Life," a collection of "prose, poetry and ramblings" (along with his own shrewd observations), Wynn Flaming is deeply involved in capturing the True Meaning of Human Existence as we know it.
While reflecting upon the contents of "Whispers of Life", one can't help but to recall that famous quote: "An unexamined life is not worth living."
That line was apparently uttered by Socrates at his trial for impiety and corrupting youth, for which he was subsequently sentenced to death, as described in Plato's Apology.
But more than the reason for that utterance, there is the authentic meaning behind it. We waste so much time going through the motions of life, moving through the prosaic back and forth, that we sometimes forget to ask the Essential Question: Why are we here? What does this all mean?
Wynn Flaming doesn't claim to have all the answers, but at the very least, he possesses a curious spirit. That spirit has thought to ponder, to consider, and then to ask those simple, deep, and even cosmic questions.
The poetry in "Whispers of Life" is an extension of the man. It is emotional and literate, concrete and conversational. It is essentially searching, and at times, searing.
The subject matter is timely, personal and most of all universal. The author explores the important topics when face in life: Love, Spirituality, Death, Memories Cherished, Pain, Isolation, and Contentedness.
This is a book for people who don't necessarily like reading poetry. It is more like a diary of feelings, an encyclopedia of living, and an emotional road map.
There is something here for everyone, because Wynn Flaming is an Every-man. He reveals the stories, struggles, pitfalls, triumphs, tragedies, growth and regeneration found within his own journey, which, in many ways, is reflective of the journey of all humans.
You will enjoy "Whispers of Life". The author has such a real and ultimately compelling voice.
Ironic that Flaming does not consider himself to be essentially a writer. As a writer myself, I recognize that gift in him. Within this one volume, he accomplishes so much, achieves such realism, and reveals such honesty. It is a wonder to behold!
Forewarning: When you read this book, you may suddenly feel less alone. Just take comfort in the fact that another soul in this world truly Understands you. His name is Wynn. Wynn Flaming.
I read the book "Whispers of Life," I found it totally "fantastic." It made me smile, I was crying and pondering events in my own life. Can't wait until the next book is out!
